It was a joy to work with Alexa and her family to create a memorable day filled with tradition and beauty. It's part of Japanese tradition that a thousand cranes be present at the wedding. Japanese Americans in Hawaii have a slightly different tradition. Instead of one thousand cranes, they fold one thousand and one cranes. The extra crane is for good luck. So Alexa's mom, aunts, and friends went to work to create one thousand hand crafted paper cranes, and her mom strung them together on a line for the ceremony. Her father even made one large baby blue crane to make for 1001 cranes in total. Talk about a labor or love!
We hung the handcrafted cranes on a simple wooden arbor (provided by Farm Tables & More) so it was the focal point and back drop of the ceremony. Alexa wanted a soft romantic color palette for her ceremony and bright color for the cocktail hour and dinner reception. We included an assortment of different varieties of dahlias, garden roses and lots and lots of bright coral peonies.
